Kelp Planting with Carbon Aware Productions

KELP PLANTING with your help Scout have funded in Portugal with our partners Carbon Aware Productions and Mossy Earth. You have now paid for a total of £6868.50 for KELP, half of which has now been safely placed in the sea & the rest will be planted later in the year. 
 
The process for this kelp planting is a new one called the 'green gravel technique’. It has involved sewing kelp seeds onto stones ('gravel') and allowing them to grow in optimum conditions in trays in a lab. Once established the young plants are transported to the sea and gently tipped into the water. The locations have been carefully selected and are now being monitored by the team on the ground. Early signs are looking extremely good and the plants are healthy. 
 
Kelp is a super fast growing plant that provides habitat for a plethora of sea critters and sequesters carbon at speed. We’re thrilled to be part of this project with you guys.
