Road Closures for filming

Here at Scout Productions we are often asked how to close a road for filming and what are the lead in times.  We find ourselves helping on early stages of the bidding process as many filming requests on location are for closing roads or putting in Traffic Management for Stop and Go.  In truth it is a very variable process as many parts of the UK have many different rules and regulations.  However it is knowledge that we are well versed with.  We recently closed a Town centre for a Skoda commercial - for the best results then lead in times are very necessary.  We believe that you need to engage and consult with all local residents and businesses as it can hugely impact them on the day if they do not know anything about the filming or event.  Algy Sloane closed the centre of Manchester for a Channel Fashion show that took 6 months of planning and preparation.  Many scouts have closed roads for snow fxs or stunts for filming.  In short lead in time is key, a cool calm Location Manager who can has time to work the local area and council is essential and a crew to abide by the rules on the day.  Most of the time the local area are interested in whats going on.  There maybe some who are not so amenable but we firmly believe everyone has the right to express their view and this the consultation is imperative.  If you have questions regarding how to source a road for filming where it needs to be closed please gat in touch and we will happily guide you through the process.
